Foreword
By K. K. Muktan
I am happy to learn that Ms. Shweta Raj Kanwar has started a new website named indiangorkha.com, which 1 am sure, will provide a viable platform for our Gorkha youth and scholars to study and share their knowledge and experience on Gorkha history which has for long remained an unexplored territory. More than 200 years have elapsed ever since we left Nepal and settled down in India. Since that time till today, a great many political and socio-economic changes have taken place in India. Brave and enterprising Gorkhas in India have not lagged behind in sacrificing and contributing to the freedom struggle of India, developing and defending the integrity and sovereignty of India.
Unfortunately, the supreme sacrifices and great contributions made by the Gorkhas have been allowed to be buried under the limo of time. Unless we carry out research work and bring them out before the people in time, our illustrious fore-fathers and their glorious contribution will amount to being merely the stories of dead men. Eminent historian Dr. Romila Thappar has stated that History is our culture, and heritage, like objcets, ideas and practices. If we forget our History, it will amount to forgetting our culture and heritage. So let our young Gorkha scholars rise to the occasion, before our future generations will have nothing more than folk tales in the name of History. I wish this website the very best!

A Vision of Heritage and Unity
The website came to life with a vision to serve as a comprehensive archival record, preserving and celebrating the remarkable history of the Gorkhas in Northeast India and across the nation. The attempt is to create a reservoir of knowledge and information dedicated to the Indian Gorkhas, sharing stories of inspiring individuals, highlighting significant places, and showcasing the rich tapestry of Gorkha culture, traditions, and their substantial contributions to Northeast India and the entire nation. By bridging the knowledge gap surrounding the Gorkha community in the Northeast and India, the aim is to foster a stronger and more supportive community among fellow Gorkha members, where shared heritage and pride in our roots become the foundation for unity, understanding, and empowerment.
The Purpose Behind Our Journey
indiangorkha.com is a small leap forward to not only document the history, culture and talent pertinent in the Gorkha community, but more so, it endeavors to connect the Indian Gorkhas with one another, to cherish our rich legacy and to keep alive our rich and vibrant tradition, while contributing, in the best possible manner, to the place where we reside. Join hands with us, as we tread on this journey together!
